ของดี....เมืองสุรินทร์

อนุสาวรีย์ พระยาสุรินทร์ภักดีศรีณรงค์จางวาง        

สร้างเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2527 เพื่อเป็นที่ระลึกถึงผู้สร้างเมืองคนแรก ซึ่งเป็นบุคคลสำคัญอย่างยิ่งในประวัติศาสตร์ของเมืองสุรินทร์  อนุสาวรีย์ ฯ ตั้งอยู่ทางเข้าเมืองทางด้านทิศใต้  ซึ่งเคยเป็นกำแพงเมืองชั้นในของตัวเมืองสุรินทร์ รูปปั้นหล่อด้วยทองเหลืองรมดำ สูง 2.2 เมตร มือขวาถือของ้าว  แสดงถึงความเก่งกล้าสามารถของท่านในการบังคับช้างศึก สะพายดาบคู่อยู่บนหลัง หมายถึงความเป็นนักรบผู้กล้าหาญ  ปัจจุบันเป็นที่เคารพสักการะของชาวสุรินทร์ ใกล้กับพระยาภักดี มีอนุสาวรีย์กับช้างเพื่อระลึกถึงชาวกวย 5 ท่าน คือ เชียงปุม แห่งบ้านโคกเมืองที  เซียนขัน แห่งบ้านปราสาทสี่เหลี่ยม เซียงฆะ แห่งบ้านดงยาง  และเซียงสีแห่งบ้านกุดหวาย ซึ่งทั้ง 5 ท่านช่วยขุนนางสองพี่น้องจับช้างเผือก ซึ่งแตกหนีมาจากกรุงศรีอยุธยาและนำส่งช้างเผือกกลับคืนกรุงศรีอยุธยา จนได้รับโปรดเกล้าฯบรรดาศักดิ์ให้เป็นหลวงทั้ง 5 ท่าน ปกครองคนในเขตของตนขึ้นเป็นเมืองพิมาย จังหวัดสุรินทร์ไดทำพิธีเปิดอนุสาวรีย์แห่วนี้ เมื่อวันเสาร์ ที่ 13 เมษายน  2528

Phraya Surin Phakdi Sir Narong Chang wang Monument

Was built in 1974 to commemorate the first founder  of Surin City. The monument is located in the southern entrance where it used to be the city’s inner wall of Surin City. The 2.2 meter brass black-smoked statue with  a curved-bladed hook in the right hand represents the ability  in his bravery. In present, the monument becomes an object of worship by Surin people. The monument was eventually opened to the

 public on April 13.1985.

ตราประจำจังหวัดสุรินทร์   Surin Provincial Seal

                รูปพระอินทร์ทรงช้างเอราวัณอยู่หน้าปราสาทหินศรีขรภูมิ  an  image of  lndra atop Erawan his celestial white elephant, in front of Si Khoraphum Kmher Ruins.

                คำขวัญประจำจังหวัด Surin provincial Slogon  สุรินทร์ถิ่นช้างใหญ่ ผ้าไหมงาม ประคำสวย ร่ำรวยปราสาท ผักกาดหวาน ข้าวสารหอม งามพร้อมวัฒนธรรม   - Lond of Elephant, Fine Silk, Beautiful siiver Badish, Khmer Ruins, Sweet Radish, Fragant Rice, Splendid Cultures.

ชื่อของจังหวัดสุรินทร์ เป็นคำสนธิของคำสองคำ คือ สุระ กับ อินทร์  หมายถึง พระอินทร์ผู้เก่งกล้าสามารถ   Province Name –Surin is compound  word-Sura  and  indra-  which means The Doughty indra.

ธงชาติประจำจังหวัด ธงสี เขียว-เหลือง-ส้ม ตรงกลางมีตราประจำจังหวัดติดอยู่   Surin Provincial Flag Consists of Green Yellow Orange in stripes with the Provincial Seal in the middle.

ถิ่นช้างใหญ่ หมายถึง สุรินทร์มีศูนย์คขศึกษามีช้างอยู่มากมาย เป็นเอกลักษณ์ของจังหวัด  - Land of Elephant means  Surin has an elephant study center with a great number of elephant, whih represents uniqueness of Surin.

ดอกไม้ประจำจังหวัดดอกกันเกรา (Fagraea fragrans) Surin provincial Flower – Fagraea frarans or Kankrao flowers or Comon Tembusu.

                ผ้าไหมงาม หมายถึง สุรินทร์มีการท้อผ้าไหมยกท้อโบราณ ที่สวยงามมาก ติด 1 ใน 10 เมืองท้อผ้าไหมในประเทศไทยที่บ้าน ท่าสว่าง อำเภอเมืองสุรินทร์                    -Fine silk, Surin is famous for beautiful golden weaving sijk. Bantha sawang, one of the ten best silk villges in Thailand.

                       ประคำสวย หมายถึง สุรินทร์มีการทำประคำเงินขึ้นชื่อ ที่อำเภอเขวาสินรินทร์

           -   Beautiful Silver Breads explains a renowned silver  jewelries in Khwao Sintrin District.

                      ร่ำรวยปราสาท หมายถึง สุรินทร์มีปราสาทกระจายอยู่มากที่สุดในประเทศไทย ละมีปราสาทที่มีอายุเก่าแก่        ที่สุดในประเทศ คือ ปราสาทภูมิโปน

          -          Khmer Ruins, Surin has the largest number of Khme ruins in Thianland including the oldest surin named phum pon Khmer Ruin.

                     งานประเพณีบวชนาคช้าง

         ช่วงระหว่างวันขึ้น 13-15 ค่ำ เดือน 6 ของทุกปี ชาวกวยที่หมู่บ้านช้าง  จะจัดประเพณีบวชนาคแห่บวชนาคด้วยช้าง  เป็นประจำทุกปีซึ่งแต่ละปีจะมีนาคและช้างเข้าร่วมงานเป็นจำนวนมาก  โดยเฉพาะวันขึ้น 14 ค่ำ เดือน 6 ซึ่งเป็นวันแห่นาคจะมีขบวนช้างนับร้อยเชือกแห่นาคไปที่วังทะลุ ( จุดที่น้ำชีไหลมาบรรจบกันกับแม่น้ำมูล ) เพื่อบูชาเซ่นไหว้สิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์

                   Elephant  Ordination Traditional Festival

-          During every 13^th -15^th day of the new moon in the sixth lunar month, Guay people at the Elephant Village will hold an annual ordination Festival carrying Nagas ( candidates for ordination ) by elephant. Each year there will be a lot of Nagas and elephant joining the event, especially in the 14^th  day of the new moon in the sixth lunar month the Nagas  carrying day. There will be a procession of hundred elephant carrying Nagas to wang Talu ( the point that the chi Stream meets with the Mun River ) to pay homage to sacred things.
